Recall Roundup: 2013 Ram 1500 Windshields, 2005-10 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Commander Transfer Cases

Chrysler Group has announced recalls concerning two of its brands, Ram Trucks and off-road centric Jeep. The first vehicle needing a fix is the 2013 Ram 1500, which was assembled from June 25, 2012 to December 12, 2012. The problem at hand concerning the Ram deals with a coolant bypass valve that sometimes sticks in a way that obstructs the full flow of coolant into the heater core. A heater core acts like a radiator, but instead transfers engine heat to the car's interior, rather than the outside. With a faulty coolant bypass valve, the affected trucks can't defrost the windshield properly and that doesn't line up with the Federal Vehicle Motor Safety Standard No. 103, "Windshield Defrosting and Defogging Systems." Jeep is also recalling certain Grand Cherokee models assembled from February 11, 2004, through March 9, 2010, and Jeep Commander models from January 31, 2005, through March 10, 2010. These aforementioned Jeep models are plagued with an electrical failure in the transfer case. This can be an issue as the transfer case can unintentionally shift into neutral. This problem sounds more like a nuisance than anything else, but in reality, this can cause the Jeep vehicles to roll away on its own. To rectify the situation, local Chrysler Group dealerships will re-flash the final drive controller, which controls the transfer case on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander, free of charge. Dealerships will also replace the affected part on the Ram for free as well. This recall is expected to begin next month but concerned owners can contact Chrysler directly at (800) 247-9753 and reference campaign No. N23 for Jeep and N25 for Ram. You can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236. Source: NHTSA
