Recall Roundup: Toyota RAV-4, Honda Pilot, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook

Toyota is recalling select RAV-4 crossovers produced for the 2006 to 2008 model years thanks to several complaints filed by consumers with the Office of Defects Investigation. While it's not known the exact number of RAV-4 vehicles affected by the recall, the part being called into question is the rear suspension arm assembly which is often referred to as a rear tie-rod. If a rear tie-rod fails while the vehicle is in motion, complete control can be lost, leaving the driver and occupants helpless. This defect was recorded in multiple complaints and service records. Toyota is working with the ODI to get to the root of the issue. More information is expected to become available in the coming days so stay tuned. General Motors is also working with the Office of Defects Investigation after it received 415 complaints from consumers during 2008 through 2012 concerning Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia models that contain a defective low beam headlight. While it's still unknown just how many vehicles have been affected, what is known is vehicles produced from 2007 to 2009 are being scrutinized. The problem is believed to be a wiring harness inside the headlight assembly that overheats and consequently melts, leaving low beam headlight operation impossible.
Finally, Honda is working with the Office of Defects Investigation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after both agencies received complaints concerned its full-size Pilot SUV. The problem at hand is believed to be a malfunctioning electronic stability control. Drivers who reported the glitch said the Pilot will begin braking on its own or leave a lane unexpectedly. Over the past 12 months, 10 complaints have been filed to the ODI, with the first incident occurring back in 2006. If you own a vehicle produced during a time of question as mentioned above, you can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Safe Car hotline at (888) 327-4236.
