Redesigned 2014 Toyota Corolla Teased for First Time on Facebook
Can nearly 30 million happy customers be wrong? As the top-selling nameplate in the world, the Toyota Corolla carries a lot of weight on its shoulders. In its introduction in the 1960s, it has grown into being a dominant force in the compact segment. But it's recently gotten long in the tooth, as newer, faster, and more efficient competition has stolen a bit of its limelight. Not sitting still, Toyota is rolling out its all-new--we believe--2014 Toyota Corolla on June 6. And it's starting the slow process of unpealing the car's wrapper until we see it in full. Expected to look a heckuva lot like the Toyota Corolla Furia concept we first saw at this year's Detroit Auto Show, it will be toned down, smoothed out, and ditch its carbon fiber for materials more befitting an affordably priced compact sedan. Power is expected to come from an updated version of the familiar 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine in the current car, paired with what we believe will be a manual transmission, base conventional automatic, or high-level continuously variable automatic transmission. Expect 40 mpg on the highway at the least 'cause everyone else is doing it.While this shot is just a small glimpse of the 2014 Toyota Corolla's trunk and tail light, we'll surely see more of it in the next two weeks, and we'll compile pictures as we go. As the second-most-important vehicle in Toyota's lineup behind the Camry, we don't expect the automaker to screw this one up, as it's been testing the car for a while now. We just wonder how closely it will stick to the Furia concept versus going in Toyota's traditionally staid course. Stay tuned. Source: Toyota via Facebook
