Root For The Underdogs: Six Cars That Could've Made It

By Blake Z. Rong | October 24, 2012
There's a reason why The Matrix became such an international hit while the equally dystopian, trenchcoat draped, slo-mo, cool-gunplay Christian Bale vehicle Equilibrium remains utterly forgotten, known only to wannabe film nerds like me. (Seriously, go check it out—it's a lot of fun.) Some things make it big, and others—not for lack of trying, of course, but because they didn't look cool enough, weren't marketed properly, and stuck around for far too long. Too much of a good thing? Perhaps. Here are six cars that could have been good, and popular, and even cool, but are unloved like a small dog who poops just a little too much, or Bale's character in The Machinist, for that matter. There's the Volkswagen Phaeton, shown above, the poster child for this sort of unloved thing. There's a Pontiac GTO on the list, for obvious reasons. There's a— hold on, why ruin the fun? Go on and read for yourself. And guess what? They're all late-model cars with a slight whiff of pre-owned0ness about them, which means they're amazing bargains. Relatively. Want a 405-horsepower V-8 for sixteen grand? You got it. Want massaging front seats for around the same price? Here you go. Reduce, reuse, recycle: there's no shame in buying used. Batman himself would say that. Six Cars That Could’ve Made It
