Sneak Peek of Mercedes-Benz F 125! Concept before 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show Debut
Online Italian automotive magazine OmniAuto recently leaked details and pics of the Mercedes-Benz F 125! concept car ahead of its official debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show this week. Sharing that annoying exclamation point in its name like the Volkswagen Up!, the F 125! is, from what we can understand of the rough translation, a four-seater coupe powered by both lithium ion batteries and hydrogen fuel cells. The batteries propel the F 125! up to 31 miles alone before the fuel cells kick in and take over the four electric motors in a manner similar to the Chevrolet Volt. The entire setup provides a proposed range of nearly 600 miles, which the F 125! can cover quickly: According to the post, the concept can go from zero to 60 less than five seconds and has a top speed of 137 mph. Mercedes keeps the concept light using aluminum, plastics, and carbon fiber materials for the chassis and body. This includes the hydrogen fuel tank, pressurized to more than 10,000 pounds per square inch (psi). Style-wise, the Mercedes-Benz F 125! taps the SLS AMG for the huge gullwings doors and the F 800 concept for the humongous schnozzle. The thick grille, though, is new. Automotive.com's take: We actually like the Mercedes F 125!, even the gullwing doors, although we'd prefer Mercedes-Benz — and everyone else, for that matter — stop with the cutesy exclamation points. Look for full coverage when the concept rolls out later this week. Source: OmniAuto
