Spied! 2014 Cadillac ATS Coupe; Ditches Fastback for More Traditional Look
With the 2014 Cadillac CTS moving up in both size and price and eliminating its coupe and wagon variants, it gives the Cadillac ATS lineup a little more wiggle room to expand. The first new version out of the gate will be the 2014 Cadillac ATS coupe, seen here testing in heavy camouflage.Ditching the CTS coupe's raked roofline in favor of a more traditional look, the 2014 Cadillac ATS coupe is expected to share all of the ATS sedan's engines: a base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 202 horsepower, a turbocharged, 2.0-liter engine with 270 horsepower, and a 3.6-liter V-6 with 321 horsepower at the top of the range. Expect the 2.0-liter to be the sole engine with a manual transmission, as is the case with the sedan. The ATS coupe will compete with the BMW 4 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe in addition to the Audi A5. Like the sedan, we expect it to be one of the lighter, better-handling cars in its class. When we drove the 2013 Cadillac ATS, we were mightily impressed with it, and we're glad to see Cadillac following up with a sportier sequel to the popular CTS coupe. At this time, we hear there will be a Cadillac ATS-V, packing the same twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V-6 as the recently announced 2014 Cadillac CTS VSport. We expect it will make no less than that car's 420 horsepower and may have as much as 450 horsepower going to its rear wheels. As for other body styles, we've been told that a convertible version is out of the question, but a station wagon still has a slim chance, according to a GM employee with knowledge on the subject. In the world of sports sedans, the Cadillac CTS-V wagon has become something of a cult icon, and we can imagine that an ATS-V wagon might have the same effect. Expect to see the 2014 Cadillac ATS coupe at the Detroit Auto Show in January with production starting just a few months later. Source: Chris Doane
