Spied! 2014 Kia Forte Does its Best Production-Version Imitation Yet

By Trevor Dorchies | August 29, 2012
Kia has been busy lately getting caught by our spy photographers, and it’s understandable because the Korean automaker has big plans in mind. Kia plans on being in the premium vehicle segment by 2017, and the new addition of the Cadenza, the replacement flagship of the Amanti, shows movement in that direction. In the latest round of captured Kia future-product photos, our spy photographer came across the 2014 Kia Forte, in what appears to be showroom form, testing out in the desert. We expect the 2014 Kia Forte to ride on a new chassis that’s longer, wider, and sits lower to the ground than the current model patrolling our roads. As for sheet metal, the latest Forte appears to incorporate Kia’s exterior design that’s already in place on other models. Up front, the grille is sandwiched by headlights that share very similar design traits of those on the subcompact Kia Rio, while the taillights look like they're straight off the midsize Kia Optima; splitting the difference styling wise makes sense, since the Forte slots between the two cars in size and price, too. Inside, a push-button start, heated and cooled seats, additional LCD displays in the instrument cluster, and an information display will all be included on the 2014 Kia Forte sedan. As for what’s under the hood, it’s all speculation but we hear Kia is batting around the idea of bringing back the current Forte's 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 156 horsepower, and 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 173 hp. Your choice of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic transmission are also expected to be available.
No official word on when the 2014 Kia Forte will bow, but with a fully undisguised prototype running around, we're guessing we'll get the full details soon, maybe even at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of November. What do you think about the 2014 Kia Forte? Does it make you want to give Kia a look? Tell us what you think about it in the comment section below.
