Spied! 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Exterior, Interior Shots
Talk about serendipity. We just posted emerging details on the upcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class from sister pub Automobile Magazine when spyshots of Mercedes flagship found themselves in our inbox. Very little detail can be discerned of the Mercedes S-Class' exterior, and it's not just the black cladding. Mercedes looks like it made few changes to the classic design, which include a possibly larger front grill and refreshed headlamps. We can't be certain, but some the sculpting on the sides looks to be toned down as well, although that could just be the camo used on the car. We'll know more when the Mercedes-Benz S-Class makes its official debut next year. The interior shots of the S-Class are more clear. The S-Class' infotainment screen is larger, and Mercedes' COMAND system sports new buttons and a knob on the left side of the screen. We speculate they're controls for various systems like the S-Class' transmission. The area around the dial-and-push COMAND knob has been redesigned as well. Maybe that's to accommodate more space in the nearby storage unit? The current model's just deep enough to hold a jewel case. Finally, Mercedes ditched the four-spoke design on the S-Class' steering wheel for two, with the new wheel looking more substantial as well. Automotive.com's take: We're holding off giving our opinion of the upcoming S-Class until we see more substantial images, especially the exterior. The 2014 S-Class is an important model for Mercedes as the automaker plans to build higher end trims as replacement to the outgoing Maybach line. What do you think, though, of the upcoming S-Class from the spyshots? Is Mercedes on track? Or are we seeing a future crash-and-burn for the automaker's flagship? Let us know in the comments below.
