Spied! 2014 Toyota Corolla

The twelfth-generation Toyota Corolla has been caught testing in the U.S. alongside a Honda Civic HF and Mazda 3 sedan, and from the looks of the photos, the new subcompact will be very similar to the Corolla Furia Concept that made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show this year. Rumors that the Corolla would be going under some major changes have been confirmed, if the new aspects of the car are anything to go by. Taking a look at the exterior, what can be seen are possible chrome-accented HID headlights, along with a crossbar that bisects the grille opening. The lower grille opening mirrors the one found on the 2013 Toyota Avalon, and other visible features include a chrome trim around the side glass and projector fog lights. The 2014 Corolla looks to be longer than its predecessor, and most of that added length can be seen in the rear door. Another change is the more severe slope of the hood, with the shorter trunk lid. What we do know is that under the hood there will be an updated 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with continuously variable valve timing, said to give it a 10-15 percent increase in horsepower. You can expect the new Corolla to have a jump in fuel economy, as well as an optional six-speed manual, as well as a CVT transmission. The 2014 Toyota Corolla sedan will start production later in the year with a hatchback entering production in the last half of 2014, set to replace the current Toyota Matrix.
