Spied! 2015 Cadillac ATS-V Tests Against BMW M3
The 2015 ATS-V is months from officially breaking cover, but our spy photographer caught it testing against--what else?--a BMW M3. Cadillac went to great lengths to emphasize that the ATS was built to compete against the revered BMW 3 Series. So it comes as little surprise that the performance-enhanced version of the ATS, the 2015 Cadillac ATS-V, would compete against the performance version of the 3 Series, the BMW M3. The wealth of photographs you can sort through in the gallery below also suggest much about what we can expect once the camouflage comes off. Like all "V" models, the 2015 ATS-V will feature a more powerful engine, likely the same one tapped for the 2014 Cadillac CTS: a twin-turbo V-6, good for 420 hp, with a generous amount of that available on the lower end. This would be a logical choice as the BMW M3 it competes against counts on a 4.0-liter V-8 for its 414 hp. You can expect wider tires, larger brakes for the needed addition stopping power, and an aggressive, sonorous exhaust note coming out of the two pairs of pipes, four in total. While testing is well under way, it's possible Cadillac could debut the ATS-V next January at the Detroit Auto Show, if not before at the LA Auto Show later this year.
In the month of May, there was no silver bullet to finding sales success.
