Spied! 2015 Ford Mustang Finally Emerges in Full Camouflage Regalia

By Jacob Brown | June 10, 2013
We know an all-new Ford Mustang is coming for 2015, but so far it's been hush-hush on actually seeing it. Not long ago, a 2015 Ford Mustang prototype wearing the body of the current-generation pony car was seen, albeit its nose was clad in layers of black vinyl to protect it from prying eyes. Paragraphimage Now, we have our first look at the all-new car from bumper to bumper. Little is visible, but what is makes for quite a compelling story. We know that the next Ford Mustang will be the first model to ever feature a standard independent rear suspension. Its body lines have been obscured by large chunks of foam placed underneath the vinyl, giving the car a more upright appearance. But looking at it closely, it appears the 2015 Ford Mustang will share a similar profile to the current car, albeit with some big changes. No longer going retro, the 2015 Ford Mustang will adopt the corporate "Kinetic" styling design previewed on the Ford Evos concept and used by everything from the 2014 Ford Fiesta to the current Fusion midsizer. The next Ford Mustang will come with an EcoBoost four-cylinder engine primarily designed for Europe and expected to produce around 300 horsepower, a 3.7-liter V-6, likely carryover, a 5.0-liter "Coyote" V-8 GT model, and a GT500 that may punch higher than the current car's 650 horsepower. The last one is the biggest in doubt because of 2016 CAFE legislation that will greatly increase average fuel economy numbers. Other V-8-replacing engines are always possible as a result of CAFE. Codenamed the S550, the 2015 Ford Mustang is expected to go on sale into production in July of 2014. That said, don't be surprised if it bows at next January's Detroit Auto Show.
