Spied! 2015 Porsche Macan S and Macan Turbo Show Up in Los Angeles
With less than a month to go before its full reveal at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Porsche is still testing its 2015 Macan compact crossover. On the way home from work yesterday, we caught up with the sporty new crossover as a convoy passed us. While the 2015 Porsche Macan has been spotted many a time at this point, and Porsche has even released its own set of preproduction pictures, what makes the vehicles we saw worth noting are the differences between each of the three. First up was a Porsche Macan S with four rectangular tail pipes. Then, we found one equipped with a towing package, which moved its license plate mounts to the middle of the hatchback instead of on the bumper. Finally, we caught up with a Porsche Macan Turbo, complete with four round tail pipes and a snarl that sounded raspy and distinctly Porsche. All three have stickers over their headlights and tail lights, as well as their D-pillars, to protect their details from a snooping public. However, expect the Macan to have slim tail lights evocative of the Panamera Sport Turismo concept's. Despite sharing its architecture with the Audi Q5, Porsche is doing its best to separate the two crossovers. Expect the 2015 Porsche Macan to initially come with a pair of V-6 engines. A standard turbocharged four-cylinder Porsche Macan should join the Macan S and Macan Turbo a little ways down the line. Corporate cousin Audi has currently set the benchmark for sporting prowess in the class with the Audi SQ5. However, we expect performance from this new crossover to eclipse the Audi's. We'll know for sure when it's revealed in full next month.
Mercedes-Benz announces that the new S-Class Coupe keeps close to the original concept.
