Spy Shot: 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe

By Keith Buglewicz | November 09, 2011
While the official reveal of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe will happen next week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, we got a sneak peek at the new body courtesy these nighttime shots of the coupe in an Orange County parking lot. Despite the heavy camouflage, it's clear what the car is. Not only is it sporting the 2012 Hyundai Elantra sedan's distinctive headlights, it's also wearing Hyundai's Southern California fleet license plate. The new coupe's styling is unmistakeably Elantra, and the swoopy shape of the sedan lends itself to a coupe easily. The doors are obviously elongated, and the roofline plunges even more dramatically than the sedan's. Even through the camo, it's clear that the 2013 Hyundai Elantra coupe has one clear target in mind: The 2012 Honda Civic coupe. So far, no details have been released regarding the coupe's engine, transmission or price. However, it's a good bet the sedan's 1.8-liter 148-horsepower four cylinder lives under the hood, and that the Elantra Coupe will offer the same general array of features and amenities as the sedan. It's also possible that the Elantra Coupe will offer the six-speed manual transmission across a broader range of models; it's currently only available in base-model GLS sedans. Keep your eyes open for more information when the Elantra Coupe is unveiled on November 16, at 10:30 am Pacific time. Photos courtesy Rob Hallstrom

Aaahhhh! It's got its coat on. Must be cold. Or shy. Looking forward to seeing it though. Big fan of Hyundai!

Lines definitely reminiscent of the Honda Civic coupe. Will be interesting to see/read comparisons between the two. The Elantra's interior will probably be more fresh, contemporary, though more conservative: the Civic's two-tiered instrument cluster's still unique especially in this segment.
