Subaru Impreza Web Configurator Goes Live, Sneak Peak at WRX/STI Brochures

By Jason Davis | November 22, 2011
If you're into Subaru, you'll by now know that that for 2012, the Impreza and WRX/STI nameplates have had a falling apart. While the 2012 WRX and STI will continue indefinitely using the same underpinnings as the 2011 Impreza (brochures here), the all-new 2012 Subaru Impreza gets a new chassis, engine, and a much improved interior. And so far, it looks good. America's most efficient all-wheel drive car goes on sale soon, but in the meantime, you can play around with the 2012 Impreza configuration tool. From there, we see that the new compact starts at $17,495 minus fees, and rates up to 36 mpg highway. In fact, all of the model levels are in line with a comparably-equipped Honda Civic's, and fair well in mileage ratings, with the exception of the Civic Hybrid and CNG. The Impreza's 27 mpg city/36 mpg highway rating is more impressive in that the Impreza is an all-wheel drive vehicle, which tends to hurt mileage ratings. To work with this, Subaru reduced vehicle weight and built an all-new engine and transmission for the Impreza. The result is a remarkable achievement for those slogging southern California's busy highways as much as those sloshing through the east coast's winter terrain.
