Subaru Recalls Legacy, Outback for Side Curtain Airbags

By Blake Z. Rong | February 14, 2012
Subaru will recall 381 Legacy and Outback models built in 2011 due to a potential fault with their side curtain airbags. The model-year 2012 Legacys and Outbacks affected were built in December of 2011. Their side airbags were manufactured incorrectly from the factory. The wrong mixture of propellant was used, and the weak airbags might not deploy correctly in an accident. Subaru recommends against sticking Roman Candles in there to get them to explode correctly, and bringing your 2012 Legacy or Outback into the dealer in April for a free airbag replacement. If you're one of the 381 owners and you have questions for Subaru, you can contact them at (800) 782-2783. You can also contact the NHTSA at (888) 327-4236 and reference campaign ID number 12V047000.
