Subaru XV Lands in Frankfurt
Last month, Subaru released a black and white teaser image of its new European-spec XV crossover. Today, in Frankfurt, Subaru pulled back the cloth on the real thing. The "Urban Adventure" CUV still looks like a European-spec Impreza Outback. At the moment, it is only confirmed for Europe, but last month, we spoke to Dominick Infante, national manager of Subaru of America’s product communications, who confirmed to us that a stateside appearance is “under review.” We'll take that as a definite maybe.Filling in the gaps, we now know that the interior features a functional mix of materials for an active, urban lifestyle. There's ample cubby storage, and the instrument panel gets an optional multi-function display with a 4.3-inch color LCD monitor displaying vehicle information. Also, new door openings make it easy to get in and out of the XV. Under the hood, the eco-minded CUV is friendly with the purse-strings, though power and economy figures for the 1.6-liter, 2.0-liter, and 2.0-liter diesel "boxer" four-cylinder engines are not yet available. However, with a new CVT transmission and "start-stop" technology, consumers should see highway numbers well into the 30-mpg range. Look for the XV in European showrooms in January 2012.
