Supersize Me: Fiat to Debut "Larger" 500 at Geneva This Year

By Trevor Dorchies | February 02, 2012
These are the first official images of the all-new Fiat 500L, and as you may have guessed, the L stands for "large." Not much is known yet about the bigger 500L except that it will be officially unveiled on March 6 at the Geneva Motor Show. The 500L will be joining Fiat's growing lineup, which also sees the addition of the 500 Abarth later this spring, and an all-electric version of the 500 next year as well. With more vehicles to choose from, Fiat hopes the Italian auto maker hopes it can speed up sales, which have been sluggish for the tiny 500. The all-new Fiat 500L will be capable of carrying five passengers and will be another entrant into the growing subcompact segment. With the addition of the 500L to its lineup Fiat is taking on competitors like the Ford Fiesta, Mazda2, and Toyota Yaris. Subcompact vehicles have had quite a bit of success across the pond in recent years and Fiat is hoping to copy that success in the United States.  The 500L will be assembled at Fiat's Kragujevav facility in Serbia, and is destined for U.S. shores sometime next year.
