Swan Song: 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Ultimate Edition

The Toyota FJ Cruiser has been a capable, affordable off-roader, and now we have been given one final limited edition model before the SUV rides off into the sunset. The 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Ultimate Edition debuts this week at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show, where it pays tribute to the legacy of the Land Cruiser FJ40 from the 1960s.
While it was initially designed for rugged off-roading, we've seen quite a few of them running around our Los Angeles area offices, serving as baby Hummers. Although it is fuel-inefficient as a city runabout, the FJ--if used for its intended purpose--is a competent vehicle. The FJ Ultimate Edition will be limited to a final run of 2,500 vehicles and will feature several performance upgrades. The special edition model goes on sale in January.
For starters, Toyota Racing Development (TRD) outfitted the Ultimate with a special off-road suspension, one that uses Bilstein race shocks with increased damping and TRD race coil springs. The 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition only comes in 4x4 and features standard Active Traction Control and Crawl Control. The Ultimate is also painted in a newly-developed "Heritage Blue" hue that pays homage to the original model.
The current FJ Cruiser has sold more than 200,000 models since 2006, and it will be remembered as one of the more iconic Toyota SUVs. Source: Toyota
