Techie: 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Reinvents, Redefines Itself

By | October 21, 2013
The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class puts to rest confusion surrounding the luxury automaker's former entry-level car, and does so with an assault of technology, features, and refinement. Paragraphimage Ever since the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA began development, there were questions surrounding the fate of the Mercedes-Benz bread-and-butter C-Class. How did Mercedes respond? By giving the C some of the highly advanced technology seen on six-figure models of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. We're talking semi-autonomous driving tech; using a multitude of sensors—radar, stereo camera, and ultrasonic—the next-gen 2015 C-Class will be able to do more than just detect blind spots or use Distronic Plus, the automaker's adaptive cruise control system also featured on the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The C will also get steering assist features and braking assist, which can help keep the car in its lane, steer out of the way of other cars, pedestrians, and animals, and even brake to mitigate or avoid the impact of an accident. And if you do get in to an accident, the car's high-strength steel and aluminum frame—48 percent of the new frame is made from aluminum—will go further in protecting its occupants. Fancy. Paragraphimage There are other features unheard of at such a level such as a satellite tunnel detection function that automatically shuts air vents to prevent excessive fumes from entering the cabin and reopens them once it detects you are out of the tunnel. Though even if some fumes were to get in, you might not notice if you opt for the car's air ionization and cabin perfumes. We had some fun with this back when we were checking out the S-Class, with a choice of scents including "Nightlife Mood" and "Sports Mood." Double fancy. And it's not just new tech that will greet new 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class buyers: the 2015 C-Class has been redesigned and fully modernized. The cabin feels streamlined, light, and fresh. A touchpad designed with smartphone finger tapping and swiping functionality, coupled with a head-up display add a new level of refinement, and further evolve the contemporary cabin. Five air vents offer a cool, metallic contrast to the rich and warmer materials. We're here in Stuttgart this week and getting our firsthand glimpse of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class interior. Check back as we learn more about what we can expect ahead of a possible Detroit Auto Show debut in January 2014. Source: Mercedes-Benz
