'The Car Show With Adam Carolla' Premieres 10 p.m. EST Tonight on Speed Channel
Car enthusiasts, rejoice, as the Speed Channel’s much-hyped new series, The Car Show hosted by Adam Carolla, premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET. Featuring the show’s comedian namesake as well as former NBA star, John Salley; award-winning automotive journalist, Dan Neil; and automotive web journalist, Matt Farah, the show promises in its mission that “everything in the automotive world is fair game.” UPDATE: Read our review of the first episode of The Car Show right here. Promising comedy, camaraderie and, most of all, cars, The Car Show should satisfy gear heads in an hour-long talk show format with segments featuring reviews and car culture oddities. While surely the new kid on the block, The Car Show joins a resurgence in automotive programs hitting U.S. airwaves. Beginning July 24, the History Channel will begin airing the second season of the North American version of the acclaimed car show, Top Gear. Based on the original U.K. show of the same name, the U.S. Top Gear will feature the same three hosts as the first season, Tanner Foust, Rutledge Wood, and Adam Ferrara, which premiered November 2010. With both shows making it to the airwaves, it makes for a great rivalry, especially since Carolla had initially been linked to the U.S. Top Gear spinoff and Neil had been cut when the History Channel cast its hosts. All indications suggest the shows will be vastly different, too. The first season of Top Gear appeared as a meeker version of the irreverent British show on which it is based; The Car Show may feature as much political incorrectness as the Speed Channel will let producers fit into its time slot, not unlike Salley’s last venture, The Best Damn Sports Show Period. It should be fun to see how each show evolves as competition heats up with these automotive shows. Which show are you more excited for: The Car Show with Adam Carolla or Top Gear?
