The Ford F-150 Is Motor Trend’s Truck Of The Year
At a ceremony in Dearborn, Michigan yesterday, Motor Trend announced the Ford F-150 as their 2012 Truck Of The Year. Motor Trend picked the F-150 based on its balance of efficiency and power, citing the new Ecoboost V-6 as an example of such engineering prowess. This was just one of the reasons why the F-150 beat out a diverse field of pickup trucks, work vans, and crosstown rivals such as the Dodge Ram and Chevrolet Silverado. The F-150 also offered a strong complement of standard features, good ride comfort, and value—the F-150 starts at just $23,500, and can be optioned into one of 650,000 possible combinations of engine size, bed length, and options. “The bottom line is that the F-150 simply excels at being a truck,” said Ed Loh, Motor Trend’s Editor in Chief. “It mastered every task we subjected it to, acing our instrumented tests at the proving grounds and swaying opinions during our real-world road evaluations.”The magazine tested the F-150, as well as all of its trucks, across a week’s worth of tests that included performance with and without a full payload, on highways and winding roads, and daily commuting purposes. These tests reflect the diverse uses that a pickup truck is intended to perform—ranging from hauling lumber to hauling children, and usually at the same time (especially if your kids are Boy Scouts). “In fact, our judges actually preferred the ride and performance of the F-150 when it was loaded with thousands of pounds of payload or saddled with a heavy trailer. It seemed the more we pushed the F-150, the better it performed.” Motor Trend awarded the golden calipers to the entire F-150 range, which goes from the basest of base short-bed, bench-seat work trucks to the mighty F-150 Raptor SuperCrew. It’s a well-deserved win for Ford and their most popular product, but we imagine they tested the Raptor more extensively than others. Source: Motor Trend
