To Russia with Love: 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class GL 63 AMG Debuts at Moscow Motor Show

Communism is dead. Long live capitalism! That's the mantra over in Russia, at least from Western eyes. The former U.S.S.R dropped the five-year plans and embraced the Western "dog-eat-dog" economic system with the fervor of a politician on a campaign tour. Anyhoo, Russia's nouveau riche have the same need to flaunt smack daddy's money in front of the struggling middle classes just like their counterparts in the West. One way to do so is drive in a high-end vehicle. At this year's Moscow Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG, its most powerful trim of the seven-passenger luxury full-sized crossover SUV. The GL 63 AMG has all the features of the premium GL-Class brand, with standard powered tailgate, premium leather seating, massage chairs for the front row, and powered sunroof. But it's the heart, or engine, of the Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG that separates it from the rest of the lineup, which includes the gas-powered GL450 and GL550, and diesel-fueled GL350 BlueTEC. The Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG is equipped with a hand-built 5.5-liter bi-turbo V-8 engine. According to Mercedes AMG, the GL 63 AMG can zip from zero to 60 mph in less than five seconds with an electronically-limited speed of 155 mph. "With the new GL 63 AMG, our all-wheel drive lineup is now complete," states Ola Kallenius, chairman of Mercedes-Benz AMG, at the Moscow show. "In addition to the ML 63 AMG all-rounder and the recently unveiled, characterful G63 AMG and G 65 AMG models, the GL 63 AMG places particular emphasis on dynamism and style. Combining the first-rate comfort of the S-Class with the performance of an AMG sports saloon (sedan), the GL 63 AMG is unique in its segment." Source: Mercedes-Benz
