Toyota GT86 Saloon/Scion FR-S Sedan Given the Green Light

By | October 24, 2013
Have you ever found yourself behind the wheel of the Scion FR-S or saw it driving down the street and thought to yourself, "Man, I wish they made a four-door version." Well, Toyota has decided to do just that. Set to be a 2015 model, Toyota has created the Scion FR-S sedan and Toyota GT86 Saloon. An inside source claimed that the sedan variant will receive some changes, including a new grille design that looks like a Japanese Samurai Sword, different powertrain choices, and will be roughly 4 inches longer. An F1-style KERS system (Kinetic Energy Recovery System), which recovers energy through braking and delivers it to the rear wheels, may also find its way on the new model. We've been holding our breath for a convertible variant of the Scion FR-S/Toyota GT86, and although a concept debuted at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, it could be a while before the vehicle enters production. So who is Toyota targeting with this new model? Drivers in their 40s who have spent years sharpening their driving skills on vehicles like the Corolla AE86, Honda S200, and Mazda RX-8 are the prime customers. Customers will have the choice between the current 2.0-liter 200 horsepower boxer engine or the next-generation Hybrid R sport hybrid system that can generate up to 270 horsepower and get up to 15 percent better fuel economy.
