Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Coming?

By Matthew Askari | November 30, 2012
The 2013 Toyota RAV4 is fresh off of its global debut this week at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, but news of a possible hybrid model is already circling the inter-webs. Speaking to the U.K.'s Autoexpress  at the show, Toyota RAV4 deputy chief engineer Yoshikazu Saeki said a RAV4 hybrid "would not be difficult to do. We are watching the market. After introducing the new RAV4 we will see. There will be a possibility of introducing a hybrid RAV4 and we will respond to what the market wants."
Toyota has long been the leader in hybrid technology, with its Prius family reaping most of the benefits. It appears anything may indeed be possible with regards to the new RAV4, as the 2013 model is considerably changed. Toyota has done away with its V-6 option, opting to downsize in an effort to achieve better fuel economy. Additionally, the RAV4 has long had a third-row of seats, helping to distinguish it from the competition. The 2013 model goes back to a more natural compact crossover format with two rows and added cargo space. We'll be driving the 2013 Toyota RAV4 later next month, be sure to check back for our driving impressions. Source: Autoexpress
