Transplant: 2014 Chevy Volt May Get Buick Verano's More Powerful Engine

We reported earlier this year that General Motors would be adding a new driving mode to its Chevrolet Volt for model year 2013, as well as increasing the electric car's EV-only range from 35 miles to 38 miles. Reports are now coming in on the 2014Chevy Volt. According to Inside EVs, GM plans to replace the current 1.4-liter gasoline engine used in the Chevrolet Volt and replace it with a 2.0-liter turbo engine that'll also power the upcoming 2013 Buick Verano compact sedan. Not surprisingly, GM would not comment on Inside EVs' report or queries. States GM spokesperson Kevin Kelly, "Unfortunately, we do not comment on future product details." reviewed the 2012 Chevrolet Volt earlier this year, and we found it a capable daily driver with just enough juice to zip pass slow-moving eighteen wheelers and slip into those rare tight gaps during rush hour. By no stretch of the imagination, though, would we call the Chevy Volt a sports car, or even a sporty one.
The upcoming turbo engine generates anywhere between 220 to 280 horsepower, depending on what car it's in. That's at least 50 percent more than the Volt's current engine. Thus, the Volt's driving dynamics could radically change as well as those of the upcoming Cadillac ELR which is based on the Volt's platform and powertrain. I was taken back by this article and the writer stating that the Volt has just enough power to pass slow moving 18 wheelers, he is either stupid or dumb! I have had one for a year now and the Volt is anything but slow. Zero to 60 in sport mode is about 7 seconds and off the line is great with no lag. I traded in a CTS an find the Volt just as mush fun to drive. Once again the author must have driven something other than a Volt.
