Truck Trend Speculates on Upcoming 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe
General Motors has been tight lipped about future plans for its full-sized Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs. We've reviewed both the Chevy Silverado pickup and the Tahoe SUV and found them powerful but dated even by conservative truck owners standards. It's an open secret GM is preparing to launch a torrent of new truck and SUV products over the next 2-3 years, but details on any of those products have barely been a trickle. The folks over at Truck Trend magazine recently posted spy shots of what they believe is the 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV. Heavily camouflaged, it's virtually impossible to discern any major cosmetic detail except that the Tahoe's long, boxy, and, well, an SUV. That didn't stop Truck Trend from trying, though. However, instead of wasting words on the barely discernible grille, Truck Trend speculated what may be under the 2014 Tahoe's long hood. The 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe—and GMC equivalent, the Yukon—will likely sport a fuel efficient V-8 and eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the current six-speed version. Availability may hamper the all-new powertrain, though, and the first wave of Tahoes may continue to use the six-speed transmission.Fuel efficiency drives virtually all today's cars, and even full-sized trucks and SUVs have been affected. Chevy may continue to use solid rear axles for the future Tahoe despite competitors like the Ford Expedition using independent rear suspensions. Solid rear axles, apparently, can contribute to better fuel figures. More importantly, they're considered more durable in hauling and towing, a major characteristic in truck-based SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe and its GMC twin, the Yukon. Finally, GM may expand the Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon lineup and throw in a diesel-powered version. Hybrid versions of the SUVs are already available, and diesel could contribute to the lineup's bottom line among buyers eager to have both power and high mpgs for their SUVs. Source: Truck Trend
