Upcoming Porsche 911 GT3 to Put 450 HP for Track Days
"Stiffer, louder, faster, racier." That's how our editor here at Automotive.com describes the difference between "I'm for the track" Porsche 911 GT3 versus pedestrian models like the 911 Turbo. Details are now leaking on the upcoming GT3, which is tentatively set to make its debut at next year's Geneva Motor Show. Simply put, the 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 will have more horsepower. According to Autocar, this latest 911 variant will get up to 450 hp courtesy of its normally aspirated 3.8-liter flat six. That's an additional 15 ponies more the current engine, a size worthy to brag about at the watercooler. More figures to throw about: zero to 60 mph in less than four seconds and 200-mph top speed. There's already controversy forming around the Porsche 911 GT3 and focuses on a most unlikely source: transmission. The sports car most likely will only be sold with a seven-speed, dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission. Yes, you read that right. Automatic. Rationale varies as to why Porsche would not make a manual transmission--a true enthusiast's stick of choice--available on the 911 GT3. Fans will definitely be asking at Geneva as well as when the even more extreme Porsche 911 GT3 RS will return to dealerships. Source: Autocar
