Video: Lincoln Heritage Though the Years

By Matthew Askari | December 11, 2012
The newly minted Lincoln Motor Co. wants you to know on its ascension back to prominence—a plan the automaker has recently shared with the media—it's not starting from scratch. The 2013 Lincoln MKZ is new, but this isn't a new project, say, a Tesla or Fisker; Lincoln's roots and heritage are real, but if your recollection needs jogging, the automaker recently showcased some of its finest automobiles at the 2012 LA Auto Show, and made an intimate video that brings to life the stories behind the various Lincoln nameplates. Remember, these were cars that were transporting people in style back when Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower were in the Oval Office.
Included in the bunch is Elizabeth Taylor's 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II, ordered to match the siren's alluring eyes. A pair of 1937s—a Lincoln Zephyr Coupe-Sedan, and a Lincoln Derham Sport Sedan—are also featured. The Sport Sedan was a one-off, and has somehow, brilliantly weathered the years for our enjoyment. A Gatsby-era 1929 Lincoln Dietrich Convertible Coupe, and a 1940 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet round out the videos. When we recently spoke with Lincoln's director Matt VanDyke, he imparted that the automaker had looked to luxury brands like Gucci and Burberry—ones that were able to channel their heritage and illustrious past—and tailor a new image building upon that foundation. If this video is any indication, Lincoln is well on its way.
