Video of the Day: Fiat Shows Off 500L Until You Get Dizzy

By Trevor Dorchies | March 05, 2012
Here in America, we're best-known for three things: apple pie, baseball, and Cadillacs. Out of the three, Cadillac—or at least the size of those from days past—has become a recurring theme for what can be found on the road today. So when a car company begins selling small vehicles in America, you can guess how they're initially received. Just ask Fiat. The Italian automaker has sold more than 800,000 subcompact 500s worldwide since its reintroduction in 2007, but it hasn't gotten the same traction stateside, as many Americans haven't yet caught subcompact fever. However, Fiat isn't worried, and even has a solution for Americans: A bigger version. In today's installment of Video of the Day, Fiat takes us around its new-to-America 500L a few times to show off every curve and crevice of the super-sized hatchback. The "L" stands for "large" as you could have guessed, fitting for the market it's about to enter. Fiat and other automakers who produce subcompact vehicles have found a niche' market to cater for but all have had trouble branching out to the masses. With the all-new 500L Fiat hopes to appeal to those who want space, good fuel economy figures, and a foreign heritage. The 2012 Fiat 500L is scheduled to officially bow at the Geneva Motor Show tomorrow where more official numbers are expected to be released. When the 500L finally goes on sale in the United States sometime next year we expect the Mazda2, Ford Fiesta, and Toyota Yaris to be its main competition. You can check out the video of the 500L below.
