Video of the Day: Humvee vs. Humvee

By | October 11, 2013
On the latest episode of Head 2 Head, Johnny Lieberman pits Humvee against Humvee. The AM General's Humvee was the primary multipurpose vehicle for the U.S. Military since 1984. This slow and clumsy workhorse is slated to be replaced eventually, at the cost of nearly $300,000 per vehicle. As an interim step, Gale Banks has a solution: the Banks Humvee, a more sophisticated, albeit more expensive, version of the current Humvee. So how do they compare? The current Humvee features almost three tons of armor, making it slower than it was to begin with. Banks Engineering is offering an alternative, one that features an upgraded turbocharged engine and active suspension. Although it may be expensive, compared to an MRAP or Oshkosh L-ATV, it's one of the cheapest alternatives. But before we get into the cost, we need to see if they stack up against the challenges placed in front of them. Watch the video below to see how both Humvees managed around the road tests, as well as off-road. Think Johnny Lieberman can manage to make it around Motor Trend's Figure 8? Find out below.
