VW Fits Fuel Cell To Space Up Concept
Volkswagen showcased a new fuel-cell powered concept vehicle for the small family range at the Los Angeles Auto Show earlier this month. The vehicle, called the Space Up! Blue, uses a unique "high temperature" fuel cell that is said to be more efficient, compact and weighs less than the current fuel cell being used on cars. The Space Up! Blue has a range of 155 miles with an additional 62 miles of range through the compact lithium-ion battery package. The battery can either be charged via an electric outlet or through roof-mounted solar panels. The fuel cell had been created in-house at Volkswagen The Space Up Blue is 144.9-inches in length and 61.8-inches tall and features rounded roof windows similar to the 1950s VW Samba minibus.
