VW, NHTSA Recalls 2010 New Beetles Due to New Occupant Crash Safety Regulations

By Automotive Staff | February 02, 2011
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 27 model year 2010 Volkswagen New Beetles are subject to recall. According to the federal agency, certain copies may not meet federal crash standards that went into effect September 1, 2010, specifically Federal Motor Vehicles Safety Standard No. 208 regarding occupant crash protection. The New Beetle/New Beetle Convertible’s installed barriers may not supply adequate protection in case of collision and afflicted models were assembled September 1-22, 2010. Because of the relatively low number of customers affected by the problem, VW dealers will offer a New Beetle or New Beetle Convertible built before September 1, 2010, that is compliant with FMVSS No. 208 as part of the recall. No word on what will become of the affected cars. via Volkswagen, NHTSA courtesy of Automobile Magazine Staff
