Week in Review

It's officially the first weekend of the summer and you have better things to do than read every word of every article we've written this week. Because of that, we've brought you the top stories for the week in a condensed, quick format that is easy for you to know what was important. Chevrolet announced the performance numbers on the 2014 Corvette Stingray, J.D. Power released new survey results, and Mercedes-Benz accidentally leaked images of the new S63 AMG. A lot went down this week, and now you can catch up on everything in time to hit the beach for a bonfire. Paragraphimage Monday, June 17 Kicking off the week was the accidental reveal of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG in a factory video showing production at the German Sindelfingen plant. Normally, reveals are more dramatic and have an event centered around the vehicle, not a mishap. The new S63 AMG adds to the recently introduced S-Class, with upped performance thanks to a 5.5-liter V-8 engine that delivers 571 horsepower, as well as a tweaked front end. The S63 badge helps to differentiate the AMG model from the standard S-Class model. There aren't too many new features of the car visible in the video, but what you can see is enough to make you want one. Paragraphimage Tuesday, June 18 Chrysler Group and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have been butting heads regarding a potential recall of select Jeep vehicles, and after some debate, the automaker decided to recall Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty vehicles. Chrysler has implemented a voluntary campaign to bring in and inspect the potentially affected vehicles. The company will provide upgrades to the rear structure of the vehicles, and although these vehicles aren't listed as defective, the automaker holds the safety of its customers as a top priority. Chrysler and the NHTSA are working together to resolve this issue. Paragraphimage Wednesday, June 19 J.D Power and Associates released the results of its Initial Quality Survey this week, and surprisingly, the survey found that the majority of problems customers faced were not malfunctions or defects, but the design of specific features. Porsche came out on top with the fewest amount of problems, with GMC and Lexus rounding out the top three. Out of the 26 model level segments, Chevrolet grabbed the most awards of any brand, earning 5, which is the most awards in the history of the company. The Lexus LS was the best Large Premium Car, and at 59 problems per 100 vehicles, it was the lowest amount of problems of all models in the study. Paragraphimage Thursday, June 20 Chevrolet has finally released the performance numbers on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and while some of them aren't too exciting, there were a few that blew us away. When equipped with the Z51 performance package, the new Stingray will go from a standstill to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, speed through a quarter mile in 12 seconds at a speed of 119 mph, and sustain 1.03 g's when cornering. For $56,590 that doesn't sound like a bad deal, especially if you compare it to vehicles costing twice as much. Its fast, has a striking new look, and is cheaper than most of the competition. Why wouldn't you get one? Paragraphimage Friday, June 21 Once again we have caught the new 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class out testing, but this time we get glimpses of the body that were previously covered up with camouflage. Even though it may have been sweltering, our photographer was able to catch photos of the new C-Class hot weather testing with the front bumper almost completely revealed. The coupe will be bigger than the current generation to distance itself even further from the new CLA-Class. The sportier appearance of the C-Class is sure to draw in a younger buyer, and with the possible addition of a convertible variant to the U.S., it's sure to be a hot ticket.
