Week in Review: Chrysler Diesels, Cadillac CTS Spy Shots, and Ford Focus ST Fuel Economy
Automotive news subjects spanned a variety of brands this week including Chrysler. The automaker has officially registered an "EcoDiesel 3.0L" nameplate, presumably for a new diesel engine option available in the upcoming Ram 1500 and 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Cadillac was caught sleeping as a spy photographer snapped a few photos inside and out of the 2014 CTS. Finally, Ford announced EPA fuel ratings for the highly anticipated Focus ST. You can read about the week's top automotive news stories in this week's installment of Week in Review. Monday, July 9We've heard rumors of a diesel engine option for the upcoming Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee models for a while now. Chrysler took steps to legitimize those rumors earlier this week as the Detroit-based automaker applied for and received permission to use the "EcoDiesel 3.0L" moniker. While Chrysler hasn't confirmed any diesel engines are coming, we think it's only a matter of time before a diesel-powered Ram or Jeep arrives in U.S. showrooms. Tuesday, July 10Cadillac has been prepping its latest CTS for a while now and we have the spy shots to prove it. A spy photographer recently caught the 2014 Cadillac CTS testing and even snapped a few shots of what the interior will look like. The new CTS was caught while lapping the Nurburgring in Germany a little while back and the latest round of spy shots finally give us a peek inside Caddy's popular sedan. Looking through the camouflage, you can see a V-patterned grille and LED daytime running lights. The interior appears to share similar traits with the 2013 Cadillac XTS we recently tested as well. Wednesday, July 11The latest Lexus LS is set to be unveiled later this month, the Japanese automaker announced on Wednesday. The new LS is expected to continue building on the well-known model's technology and refinement seen in previous models. It can be argued the current Lexus LS is the Japanese automaker's flagship vehicle even though it has only been around since 2006. Three LS variants are expected to be offered for the latest model year including the LS 460, the LS 600 h L hybrid, and the all-new LS 460 F Sport. Thursday, July 12While you'll still have to wait until this fall to drive the 2013 Ford Focus ST, we can tell you the EPA-rated fuel economy is expected to get 23 mpg city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined. Ford claims this is the best in class as it beats the Mazdaspeed3 by 7 more highway mpg and 1 more highway mpg when compared to the four-door Volkswagen GTI. However, the 2013 Hyundai Veloster turbo beats the Focus ST with its 26 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg combined. The Ford Focus ST does squeeze 252 horsepower from a 2.0-liter Ecoboost turbo engine though, which is 51 more ponies than the turbocharged Veloster. Friday, July 13,Almost every BMW has an M-badged variant. BMW's M performance lineup can currently be found on the 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, X5 and X6 SUVs but, before long, one model may no longer be left out in the cold. While it's unclear whether the 2015 BMW 7 Series' expected levels of comfort and refinement will conflict with the values of an M-branded vehicle, our sister publication Automobile magazine has reported that a high-performance 7 Series destined for our shores is still being considered.
