New for 2019

Now in its 10th year of production, the 370Z soldiers on with a host of upgrades across the board in an attempt to keep it fresh for just a little longer. Notable changes include a new "Heritage Edition" package featuring two new colors: Pearl White and Deep Blue Pearl with corresponding decals, black outside mirrors, and yellow interior trim. Elsewhere, trim levels are shuffled and consolidated, and the 370Z Roadster loses its manual transmission option.

Trim Levels (Interior and Exterior Options)

The 370Z offers buyers a choice of coupe or convertible, though the coupe remains the sportier choice. No standalone options are available—instead, each trim level has its own distinct complement of convenience and performance features.

2019 370Z Coupe/370 Roadster: The base model comes equipped with a six-speaker stereo with MP3/WMA playback capability and a USB port, auto-dimming rearview mirror, keyless entry with push-button start, automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel that tilts along with the instrument cluster.

2019 370Z Coupe Heritage Edition: This appearance package adds unique exterior graphics, contrasting yellow trim and bolster stitching on the cloth seats, and yellow trim details on the steering wheel, shift knob, and throughout the cabin. The Heritage edition is available in Magnetic Black, Pearl White, or Deep Blue Pearl.

2019 370Z Coupe Sport: The Sport adds a viscous limited-slip differential, 19-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, rev-matching for the manual transmission, and a Bose audio system.

2019 370 Roadster Touring: The midlevel trim of the convertible adds satellite navigation, heated and cooled leather seats, and a Bose audio system.

2019 370Z Coupe Sport Touring: Moving up to the Touring trim adds heated leather seats, satellite navigation, Homelink, and Bluetooth streaming audio.

2019 370Z Roadster Sport Touring: The most comprehensively equipped trim on the convertible adds a viscous limited-slip differential, 19-inch wheels, and upgraded brakes.

2019 270Z NISMO: The top trim level offers more horsepower, NISMO-tuned suspension, wheels, and aerodynamic upgrades, aluminum-trimmed pedals, Recaro seats with Alcantara inserts, and an Alcantara/leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Performance and Fuel Economy

All 370Z models are powered by Nissan's 3.7-liter V-6 producing 332 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. Opt for the NISMO trim level and power rises to 350 hp and 276 lb-ft. The coupe offers the choice of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic driving the rear wheels. Sport and Sport Touring levels add paddle shifters on the automatic. All trim levels of the 370Z Roadster receive a seven-speed automatic with paddle shifters standard.

In our tests of the 370Z in 2009, 2012, and 2015, the car was a consistent performer with 0-60 times under 5 seconds. But in 2017, a lack of a limited-slip differential and smaller, taller rubber added almost half a second in testing. Performance-minded buyers should skip the base model and opt for the Sport, which features the differential and larger wheels and tires.

Manual versions of the 370Z Coupe are rated 18/26 mpg city/highway, with automatic examples rated 19/26 mpg. 370Z Roadsters with the automatic are rated 18/25 mpg.

Utility (Cargo Space and Interior Room)

As expected with a two-door sports car, space is at a premium in the 370Z. Although Coupe models offer a scant 6.9 cubic feet of trunk space, the Convertible offers even less, providing a mere 4.2 cubic feet. The squat roofline of the Coupe keeps things tight inside, with 38.2 inches of headroom. Both Coupe and Roadster provide 42.9 inches of legroom.

Technology

The base 370Z doesn't offer much in the way of technology on any front, with a six-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system being the most prominent feature. Both Sport and Sport Touring trims elevate the audio, with a six-speaker, two-subwoofer Bose system featuring active noise cancellation. Sport Touring models come standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth audio streaming, and DVD video playback.

What We Think

Make no mistake: The 370Z is still decently quick and engaging, but its lack of investment elsewhere really highlights its age. The "Heritage" package is no substitute for a proper 50th anniversary celebration of one of Nissan's most famous models. In 2017 we said "the interior seems dated with hard plastics everywhere. The audio system's display screen looks like it was cribbed from a solar-powered calculator." The Roadster was launched in 2010 and promptly placed fourth in a comparison test against other sporty convertibles. Even though there's still a lot to like about the 370Z, it's no longer the torch-bearer it once was.
