A quality midsize family sedan with a sporty exterior, stylish interior, and excellent performance and handling.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 2007 Nissan Altima classifies as a midsize sedan that comes in four trim levels: the 2.5, 2.5 S, 3.5 SE, and 3.5 SL.

The Range

Body Styles: sedan
Engines: 2.5-liter four-cylinder, 3.5-liter V-6
Transmissions: six-speed manual, CVT
Models: Nissan Altima 2.5, Nissan Altima 2.5 S, Nissan Altima 3.5 SE, Nissan Altima 3.5 SL

What's New

The Nissan Altima has been completely redesigned for 2007. Now slightly smaller than in prior years, it offers an upgraded interior, an improved V-6 engine, and a new CVT transmission that performs well.

Exterior

The 2007 Nissan Altima’s exterior redesign includes shortening the vehicle by 2.5 inches, as well as giving the vehicle a sleeker, sportier appearance. The front of the Altima sports a new grille (similar to the Maxima); the xenon HID headlights and flared fenders suggest the 350Z sports car. Jeweled taillights, a wraparound rear bumper, and dual exhaust pipes now adorn the rear of the car.

Standard equipment on the 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5 includes 16-inch steel wheels, a rear defogger, power door locks, power windows, and power mirrors. The 3.5 SE features 17-inch alloy wheels, auto delay-off dusk-sensing headlights, and turn signal mirrors. The 3.5 SL adds a power moonroof.

Interior

The interior of the 2007 Nissan Altima sports a more refined look than before, with an improvement in product quality, as well as a better-organized gauge and control set up. Keyless ignition and entry with the ""Intelligent Key"" comes standard. The cabin feels spacious, and legroom seems ample in the back seat. Cargo capacity in the trunk totals 15.3 cubic feet, and the rear seatback folds down to increase cargo space.

Standard features for the Altima include a driver’s seat with lumbar support and height adjustment, cloth upholstery, bucket front seats, a split-folding rear seatback, keyless ignition and entry, a front console with storage, retained accessory power, speed-proportional power steering, a 12V power outlet, a tachometer, and an AM/FM audio system.

The Altima 2.5 S adds variable cruise control, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with cruise control functions, air-conditioning, and a AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers.

The Altima 3.5 SE features and eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support and height adjustment, simulated wood interior trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise control functions, a trip computer, and external temperature display.

The Altima 3.5 SL adds heated driver and passenger seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support and height adjustment, dual-zone climate control, rear ventilation ducts, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a universal remote transmitter, leather interior trim, pre-wiring for cell phone use, Bluetooth connectivity, and a premium Bose AM/FM/CD/Satellite/MP3 audio system with nine speakers, a six-disc CD changer, and a radio data system.

A technology package, not available on the base, adds a navigation system with an LCD display screen and a rear-view monitor.

Performance & Handling

The 2007 Nissan Altima offers performance and handling that surpasses most of its competitors. With responsive steering and brisk acceleration, as well as good ride quality, the Nissan Altima makes a top choice. The V-6 models prove particularly pleasing to drive; the four-cylinder models offer a bit less, but still provide a fine driving experience.

The Base Altima 2.5 comes equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. Available transmission options on the S, SE, and SL include a six-speed manual and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear independent suspensions, front and rear stabilizer bars, ventilated front disc and solid rear disc brakes improve handling.

Safety

Standard safety equipment for the 2007 Nissan Altima includes front-seat side airbags, full side-curtain airbags, tire pressure monitoring, a remote anti-theft alarm system with an engine immobilizer, and four-wheel disc brakes. ABS and traction control come standard on the 3.5 trim levels.
