The 1996 Nissan Pathfinder comes with one engine choice, two transmission choices, and five trim levels. The XE and SE come with the five-speed manual transmission standard with the option of the four-speed automatic transmission. The LE can only be paired with the four-speed automatic transmission, however. The power moon roof available on the SE and LE trims is an outstanding.

The 1996 Nissan Pathfinder gets standard dual front airbags and the engine output is up. The interior is also redesigned to be more open and comfortable.
The 1996 Nissan Pathfinder comes with 15-inch wheels and skid plates standard. An exterior spare tire carrier is optional for all models. The XE come with tinted glass and chrome wheels with optional power heated mirrors and roof rack. The SE comes with power heated mirrors, a power antenna, privacy glass, roof rack, chrome bumpers, and chrome wheels standard. A power moonroof is an available option for the SE and LE. The LE come with alloy wheels, power heated mirrors, privacy glass, roof rack, power antenna, chrome bumpers, and running boards standard.
The 1996 Nissan Pathfinder comes with bucket seats, tilt steering wheel, and an AM/FM/CD audio system. Cloth upholstery is standard on XE, while the SE has these standard features as well as power windows. The LE have the before mentioned features as well as heated front seats, leather upholstery, leather shift knob trim, air-conditioning, and automatic climate control standard.
The 1996 Nissan Pathfinder XE and SE gets optional air-conditioning while power windows are optional for XE only. The four-wheel-drive XE has the option of an AM/FM/Cassette/CD audio system while SE increases its optional list with heated front seats, leather seating, leather steering wheel trim, and automatic climate control. Power driver and front passenger seats are options for the LE.
Performance & Handling
The 1996 Nissan Pathfinder 3.3-liter V-6 engine produces 168 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque. It can tow a maximum of 5000 pounds and power brakes and power steering are standard on all models. Cruise control is standard on the SE and LE, while it's optional on the base model and XE. Limited slip differential is optional on the XE and SE and standard on the LE.
The 1996 Nissan Pathfinder provides four-wheel anti-lock brakes and driver and passenger front airbags, which are standard on all models. Other standard features include power door locks, a rear window wiper, rear defroster, and intermittent windshield wipers. The SE and LE gets standard fog lights, a keyless entry system, and an anti-theft alarm system, and these are optional for the XE. The SE also comes with the option of installing a garage door opener.
