The 1999 Nissan Sentra is the final model year before Sentra’s most significant redesign of the time beginning in 2000. There were a handful of moderate changes for 1999 plus the addition of a Limited Edition model. Models are known throughout its history as reliable and affordable vehicles with moderate options and a non-descript design for most years. It is a subcompact or compact car introduced in 1982 and currently still in production. Those built from 1982 through 2000 were subcompact and those available after are classified as compact vehicles. These models replaced the previous Nissan Sunny. The fourth generation includes those made from 1995 through 1999. All models are four-door sedans with a 1.6- or 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

The 1999 Nissan Sentra added a Limited edition model and redesigned the grille from a more traditional small grille to an oval shape in between the headlights.
The 1999 Nissan Sentra has a fairly typical exterior profile with few features to set it apart as a compact sedan outside of the logo. It has four-doors, an available spoiler, and power mirrors are standard on all models except the base XE. A power moonroof is available with the SE and the SE-L. It also has a range of colors available.
The 1999 Nissan Sentra seats five: two fit comfortably in the front while the second row can become a little crowded with three adults. The layout is plain but all controls are well-placed and within reach. Some standard and optional features include remote keyless entry, air-conditioning, tilt steering, and a CD player.
Performance & Handling
The 1999 Sentra is available with a 115-hp, 1.6-liter four-cylinder or a 140-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The smaller engine can struggle a little while merging into fast traffic and passing at high speeds. The larger engine does a little better in this area but will still require a heavy foot. It offers a moderately comfortable ride with good handling and easy steering.
Safety features on the 1999 Nissan Sentra include standard dual front impact airbags on all models. ABS brakes are optional on all models except the XE, and a panic alarm and security system is available on the SE and the Limited Edition.
