The 2008 Nissan Sentra comes in a variety of models. There is one to fit everybody's specific needs. This economy car lives up to the EPA's midsize car classification.
Body Styles: four-door sedan with hatchback
Engines: 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 2.5-liter four-cylinder
Transmissions: continuously variable, six-speed manual transmission
Models: 2.0, 2.0S, 2.0SL. SE-R, SE-R Spec V
One major update is that the 2008 Nissan Sentra base 2.0 model no longer has manual transmission. Cruise control and safety features have been added to the 2.0S. The 2.0SL now has satellite radio standard. And all 2008 Nissan Sentra models now have power windows on the driver's side.
The 2008 Nissan Sentra base 2.0 model has 15-inch steel wheels. This base model is not eligible for many options. The 2.0S's steel wheels are 16-inches. This model also has power mirrors and keyless entry. The 2.0 SL's 16-inch wheels are now alloy. This and other exterior features are options one can get for the 2.0S. Of course, both models include other added exterior options, like a sunroof. On the SE-R the alloy wheels go up an inch and other standard exterior features include a lower body kit. The SE-R Spec V is top of the line and provides summer in addition to the regular tires, and the standard exterior features seen on the SE-R model are also present in the SE-R Spec V.
On the interior, the 2008 Nissan Sentra’s base model has power locks and a split-fold rear seat. It also offers air-conditioning and a CD stereo with MP3. Step up to the 2.0S, and the many additional interior features include audio controls mounted on the steering wheel. The plush interior of the 2.0SL includes leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, among other things. The SE-R's standard interior features are upgraded and include things like larger brakes. However, the leather upholstery seen in the 2.0SL is downgraded to cloth in the SE-R model. Also, many standard interior conveniences of the 2.0SL model are merely options in the SE-R. The SE-R Spec V includes almost every imaginable interior feature.
Performance & Handling
The 2008 Nissan Sentra uses two different four-cylinder engines with a continuously variable transmission. The two-liter, four-cylinder engine offers 140 horsepower. The faster 2.5-liter, four-cylinder SE-R has 177 horsepower. The high revving engine of the SE-R Spec V has 200 horsepower, making it the fastest. The 2008 Nissan Sentra offers all the performance benefits of the Nissan Rogue in the 2.5-liter models. They are almost twins in this respect. As such, the 2008 Nissan Sentra offers an incredibly smooth ride, but only in the 2.5-liter models. The two-liter models have a bumpy ride. However, the handling is not great as the ride in the SE-R models. In these two models, sharp turning is difficult. The ride is exceptionally smooth in the 2.5-liter SE-R models, but the handling is stubborn, even though the suspension tuning is firmer. The suspension is even firmer and lower in the SE-R Spec V model.
Anti-lock brakes and a security system are now options on the 2.0S. All other models have these two features standard. Of course, airbags are standard on all 2008 Nissan Sentra models. Both front-seat side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags are included. In government testing, the 2008 Nissan Sentra earned a perfect five out of five stars in frontal-impact safety rating and the same on side-impact. However, the rear-impact rating was only four out of five stars.
