Performance & Handling
The 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva’s 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine offers 150 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, its 3.1-liter V-6 counterpart generates 155 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. Transmissions come in a four-speed automatic and five-speed manual; both are available with overdrive. Some drivers are turned off by the loud revving, since the engine is not that powerful. Performance is considered to be less satisfying than similar competitors’ models.
Safety
The 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva has a four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS) and an ignition-disable system. Dual front airbags and traction control are standard on all models. The Achieva’s side-impact durability has also improved.
