The 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme is available in sedan and coupe body styles. Each body style is available in Series I, Series II, and Series III versions for a total of six models. The Cutlass Supreme is a sporty model with a modern design that has a lot of standard equipment. All models are equipped with the same V-6 engine and automatic transmission.

The 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme has new standard equipment, including new alloy wheels and a power trunk release. The coupe models have improved side-impact protection, and the larger 3.6-liter, V-6 engine has been discontinued.
The 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme has power adjustable exterior rearview mirrors as a standard feature and a spoiler as an option. A power moonroof is only available on the Series III as an extra. Other standard features include variable intermittent wipers, fog lights, a rear window defroster, and automated headlights.
The 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme receives a standard tilt steering wheel, front cup holders, power windows, and speed control on all models. Rear cup holders are only available in the Series I sedan and coupe, while the automatic temperature control is only available in the Series III. A cassette player and AM/FM radio are standard in all models, and a CD player is available at an extra cost. In the Series III, the audio controls are mounted on the steering wheel. The audio system in the Series I coupe and sedan has four speakers while the Series II and III have a six-speaker audio system. The front bucket seats and rear bench seats are all upholstered with leather in the Series III. Coincidentally, it's also the only model that doesn't come with a front bench seat as an option. Furthermore, a front center armrest is standard in all models. The Series II and Series III all have standard leather trim on the steering wheel and shift knob, and it also comes with a power adjustable driver’s seat. Depending on the options, the seating capacity can be five or six in the Series I and Series II, but maximum seating capacity in the Series III is always five.
Performance & Handling
The 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, unfortunately, has significant problems with dependability in the engine and brake system. Some common problems are the fuel injection system and the timing belt, as well as the fuel pressure regulator. The ABS motor lock assembly also causes some need for expensive repairs.
The 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme comes standard with an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and dual front impact airbags. Meanwhile, ignition disable is also standard on all models.
