1997 Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight Regency Review

Comfortable and powerful.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 1997 Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight Regency has a large, powerful engine and traditional Oldsmobile design. Considered to be a quality value for the purchase price, the Delta Eighty-Eight Regency is available in two models and gives some extras that car buyers look for in a luxury sedan.

The Range

Body Styles: sedan
Engines: 3.8-liter V-6
Transmissions: four-speed automatic
Models: Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight Regency, Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight Regency LS

What's New

The 1997 Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight Regency picks up where the Ninety-Eight left off. The traditional style is very satisfying for Oldsmobile fans.

Exterior

The 1997 Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight Regency LS receives a remote keyless entry and power exterior mirrors as an option, while the base model doesn't get this luxury. Both variations have fully automatic headlamps, variable intermittent wipers, and a rear window defroster.

Interior

The 1997 Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight Regency base model and the LS receive a tilt steering wheel, front cup holders, power windows, speed control, and air-conditioning as standard features. Rear cup holders cost extra on the LS model and are not available on the base model at all. The standard audio system in both variations features a cassette player and six speakers as well as an AM/FM radio. A CD player is available at an extra cost for the LS but is not an option on the base model. The driver’s seat is power adjustable in both versions, but a power adjustable front passenger seat costs extra in the LS and is not available in the base model. A front center armrest is installed between the front seats and includes a storage area for maps and gear. Leather upholstery is available in the LS but is not an option in the base model.

Performance & Handling

The 1997 Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight Regency is married to a 3.8-liter, V-6 engine and a four-speed automatic, which is capable of 205 horsepower and 230 lb-ft or torque. While its previous drivers report that the powerful engine is responsive to their demands, performance and dependability are also given high ratings.

Safety

The 1997 Oldsmobile Delta Eighty-Eight Regency is equipped with standard features, such as ignition disable, dual front impact airbags, and an anti-lock brake system. It also gets front and rear impact absorbing bumpers. Traction control and a panic alarm are standard on the LS, but not available with the base model.
