General Motors manufactured the Pontiac G6, a midsize sedan, under the Pontiac brand. It made its debut in 2004 as a replacement for the Pontiac Grand Am. The styling was kept conservative. Signature elements of the Grand Am, like the rear spoiler and ribbed cladding, were removed and replaced by standard sheet metal. However, additional features were installed on the Pontiac G6, such as the remote starting system, automatic headlight control, optional panoramic sunroof, traction control, and ABS.

About the Pontiac G6
The Pontiac G6 was known for being one of the best cars offered by Pontiac until GM unceremoniously dropped the brand when it hit a rough patch in 2009. The car was styled in a manner that was contrary to popular opinion about Pontiac cars. The styling was backed by good performance and the availability of different body styles.
The base model Pontiac G6 was fitted with standard features like power mirrors, windows and locks, keyless entry, power driver’s seat, six-speaker CD stereo system, split folding rear seat, and air-conditioning.
The GT model Pontiac G6 had all the above features along with these options: remote start, ABS, traction control, premium cloth seats with six-way adjustability, and eight-speaker Monsoon stereo system. Pontiac G6 Features
The 2010 model year was the last for the Pontiac G6. It was slightly modified from the previous years and included a new sport package that brought the six-speed automatic transmission gearbox to the GTX. The car also received a mid-year facelift that included a revised fascia at the front and rear, and an improved interior. For the first time, the Pontiac G6 coupe came with a four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The last 100 Pontiac G6 models were built on November 25, 2009 to fulfill a fleet order. The end of the G6 production line also marked the end of U.S.-built Pontiacs.
The GTP version of the Pontiac G6 used the same V-6 engine as the GT, but had a displacement of 3.9 liters instead of 3.5 liters. The engine on the GTP also used a variable valve timing system that helped boost the power output to 240 hp. The four-speed manual transmission came standard with it, but it could be changed to the six-speed manual at no extra cost. The convertible version of the GTP, however, did not come with manual transmission and its engine had a power rating of 227 hp because of the restrictive exhaust system. The GTP had stability control, a feature that was not available in any other model of the Pontiac G6.
There were more engine changes introduced in 2007, along with some new features like a standard side torso for all body styles and side curtain airbags. The last feature was released late in 2006, and was therefore considered a change in the 2007 model.
The GT version of the Pontiac G6 now had variable valve timing on its V-6 engine that increased its power rating from 200 hp to 224 hp. The Pontiac G6 GT also had a 3.9-liter V-6 engine as an option, which produced 227 hp with an automatic gearbox and 240 hp with manual transmission. Pontiac G6 Evolution
The Pontiac G6 was introduced in 2005 with two trim levels: a base model V-6 and a sporty GT. A 3.5-liter pushrod V-6 engine gave both versions of the G6 200 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. The engine was matched to a four-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The Pontiac G6 GT had an additional TapShift feature that allowed the drivers to manually select gears.
Two new trim levels and two body styles were announced for the Pontiac G6 in 2006. The new body styles were a retractable hard top convertible and a coupe. The new trim level was a high performance GTP and a four-cylinder engine-driven SE. The Pontiac G6 coupe and convertible were available in the GTP and GT trim levels. The engine on the base model was changed to a 2.4-liter DOHC inline-four that delivered 167 hp. The transmission remained the same. The 3.5-liter V-6 engine was only available with the sport package on the SE and base level G6, but it was standard with the GT.
The GTP version of the Pontiac G6 also got a new DOHC V-6 engine with 3.6 liters displacement, 24 valves, and variable valve timing. This engine delivered 252 hp and was mated to a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox. In the middle of the year, the automatic gearbox was dropped along with the 3.6-liter V-6.
In 2008, the Pontiac G6 GT was renamed as the GXP and received more dramatic styling elements. The 3.6-liter V-6 that was dropped earlier was released only for the convertible body style. Moreover, the power of the engine was cut down to 222 hp. The power ratings of other engines were also reduced. The 2.4-liter engine now delivered 164 hp and the 3.5-liter engine deliver 219 hp.
