When most people think of classic sports cars, one of the first ones they inevitably think of is the Porsche 911. This rear engine, high-performance vehicle has always turned heads. The 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S was crowned Motor Trend’s ?Best Driver’s Car,? so many Porsche fans eagerly awaited the release of the 2013 models. As you would expect, the 2013 Porsche 911 comes as a coupe or a cabriolet, with the most common choice being between the traditionally rear-wheel-drive Porsche 911 Carrera and the all-wheel-drive Porsche 911 Turbo. However, what really has Porsche fans talking is the release of the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, which feature all-wheel drive for a level of control never experienced in a Porsche Carrera ever before. Of course, all of the 2013 models continue to provide the kind of style, speed, power, and handling that driving enthusiasts have come to rely on in the Porsche 911, with a few new bells and whistles thrown in.

New For 2013

One of the more glamorous additions to the Porsche 911 line for 2013 is the 918 Spyder edition of the Turbo. This is effectively a race car on the road, a super high-performance sports car of which only 918 will be made available. For the rest of us, the most notable new additions will be found on the new Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, which include:

  • All-wheel drive
  • Wider rear tires
  • Improved fuel economy


All of the Porsche 911s for 2013 have the traditional Porsche 911 shape; that curved, compact, aerodynamic body that loves to hug the road. The new Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, which are both available as a coupe or cabriolet, look just like the standard Carrera save for a wider rear section and a new tail light band on the C4. You’ll also find a sliding glass sun roof optional on the coupe. Other exterior features include body-color front and rear bumpers, body colored heated power door mirrors on both driver and passenger sides, Bi-Xenon projector beam headlights, trunk/hatch spoiler, and tinted glass.

Interior & Cargo

As befitting a top of the line sports car, the 2013 Porsche features a sporty interior, with leather upholstery and a leather-trimmed, tilt/telescoping steering wheel. One of the most intriguing features of the all-wheel drive Porsche 911 Carrera is the menu within the instrument panel, which tells you exactly how the Porsche Traction Management system distributes engine power to the four wheels.

You’ll find a host of other exciting interior features, including a high quality trip computer that instantly calculates average speed, fuel economy, and remaining fuel range, so you’ll know exactly if and when you need to stop for gas. You’ll also find a CD/MP3 player and in-dash DVD, dual zone temperature controls, power front bucket seats, a tire pressure indicator, and power everything.

Clearly designed more for action than transportation, the 2013 Porsche 911 seats four, and offers 41.6 inches of front leg room, 38 inches of head room, and 4.8 cu. ft. of cargo space. However, with the rear seats down, the cargo capacity expands to 11.7 cu. ft.


The 2013 Porsche 911 has a wide range of safety features, including many related to the handling and control of the vehicle, such as the Porsche Stability Management system, antilock brakes with brake assist, anti-slip traction control, automatic brake differential, and engine drag torque control. Airbags in the Porsche 911 include front and side driver and passenger as well as overhead airbags in case of a rollover. For theft safety, the Porsche 911 offers a keyless access system and an alarm and engine immobilizer. For child safety, you’ll find rear door child locks and ISOFIX child seat attachments. Other safety features include seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable safety belts, and delay off headlights.

Driving Experience

Like all Porsches, the 2013 Porsche 911, whether you choose the Carrera, GTS, Targa or Turbo, is made to be driven. The Carrera features a 3.4-liter, flat-6 engine that provides 350 horsepower and 287 lb-ft of torque, with a seven-speed manual transmission. When it comes to fuel economy, you’ll enjoy 19/27 mpg city/highway. The Carrera 4S ups the engine to a 3.8-liter, boosting performance to 400 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. The new 911 Turbo also offers a 3.8-liter, H-6 engine for a whopping 500 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.

If you’re an experienced driver of performance automobiles, you’ll probably notice the lighter chassis, allowing faster acceleration and improved performance.
