2022 Porsche Macan MODEL OVERVIEW

As the least expensive model in the lineup, the Macan fills an important role for Porsche. And for the new model year, the Macan gets some upgrades in design and content. Fitting below the larger and pricier Cayenne SUV, the Macan is the first Porsche many buyers will experience. Here's what those buyers can expect for the 2022 model.

Standard AWD and More Power

Following the lead of the related Audi Q5, the 2022 Macan gets more power than before. Still powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4, the 2022 Macan base model is good for 261 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, increases of 13 hp and 22 lb-ft. Porsche claims a sprint to 60 mph will only take 5.8 seconds, which again demonstrates how incredibly quick so-called base models have become these days.

Whether you go for the base 2022 model or a more powerful variant, every Macan uses a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission and AWD. The 2022 Macan S inherits the 2021 Macan GTS' engine, and makes 375 hp and 383 lb-ft from a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6. The top speed rises from 144 to 160 mph, and 60 mph is yours in as quick as 4.4 seconds.

For now, the top 2022 Macan model is the GTS. Go GTS and a more powerful version of the Macan S' engine sits under the hood. The 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 makes 434 hp and 406 lb-ft in this iteration, with a 4.1-second dash to 60 mph and a 169 mph top speed. Adding to its performance credentials, the 2022 Macan GTS also has an adaptive air suspension that lowers the ride height a bit; Porsche Surface Coated Brakes and red calipers are also standard. Put it all together and Porsche claims the suspension of the GTS model is up to 15 percent stiffer than before, yet with a more comfortable ride thanks to tweaked dampers. We look forward to testing every 2022 Macan model and seeing how these performance claims translate to the real-world experience.

Not Just Power: Practical Updates Inside

Because the 2022 Macan is more likely to function as a daily driver than, say, a Boxster, Porsche has made a few updates inside, too. There's a larger storage compartment and a shorter gear stalk, to start. A 10.9-inch touchscreen is part of the package, as is Apple CarPlay.

We don't expect the Porsche to be fully safety tested by the IIHS or NHTSA, but fans of the Macan may appreciate knowing that lane departure warning is standard. Startlingly for a 2022 Porsche, adaptive cruise control is still not standard equipment. It's optional, along with blind-spot monitoring and lane keep assist.

2022 Macan MSRP and Trims: How Much Will It Cost?

Porsches have always been among the most expensive vehicles in their respective segments, and that doesn't change for the 2022 Macan. The base 2022 Macan starts at $56,250.

Go for the 2022 Macan S and prices start at $66,750 (barring any mid-year price increases). Splurge on the 2022 Macan GTS and you'll crest $80,000 before adding any options, with the MSRP coming in at $81,250. And yes, we expect a Turbo-badged variant later.

What's the 2022 Macan's Release Date?

The new, second-generation Macan will reach dealers early in the 2022 calendar year. And at some point after that, expect a fully electric model, as well.
