2010 Saab 9-3 Review

Solid performer in need of a make-over

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2010 Saab 9-3 is offered as a sport sedan, convertible, or wagon available in two trims levels: 2.0T and Aero. Equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Saab 9-3 offers a choice of a five-speed or six-speed automatic transmission, or a six-speed manual transmission. Front- or all-wheel drive is available.

While the Saab 9-3 is a smooth riding car compared to the competition, the cabin is bland, there are minimal feature options, and only one engine is available. The standard safety equipment is more than adequate and so is the fuel economy at EPA-rated 17 mpg city / 27 mpg highway.

New for 2010

The Saab 9-3 is basically a carryover for 2010, and the only significant change is that the turbocharged V-6 engine was eliminated.

On the Outside

Updated in 2009, the Saab 9-3 is a sharp, aggressive-looking car with a unique silhouette and angular nose, marking its Swedish design origins.

From the Inside

Within, the Saab 9-3 features power leather seats, a premium stereo with MP3 connectivity, automatic climate control, a tilting and telescoping wheel, and a cooled glove box.

Driving Performance

With a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine turbocharged to produce 210 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, the Saab 9-3 boasts good performance and reasonable fuel economy. While five-speed automatic and six-speed manual transmissions are available on front-wheel drive models, all-wheel drive trims get a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.

Safety Equipment

Among the standard safety features on the Saab 9-3 are driver and passenger front and thorax side airbags, front and rear head curtain bags, OnStar Automatic Crash Response, traction control, and stability control.
