Saturn Aura Origins
The discerning automobile aficionado knows that Saturn has a reputation for making mundane cars that sport a very cheap look, even in the midsize range. General Motors (GM), however, attempted to turn the brand around, and upped the features, style, and performance of the cars in Saturn’s lineup.
The Aura can be labeled as the cornerstone in Saturn’s turnaround. The car has a distinctive, sporty edge when it comes to design and performance. After years of lagging in the midsize segment, Saturn finally emerged as a worthy competitor, thanks to the Aura.
The vehicle debuted as a concept car for the first time at the North American International Auto Show in 2005. The original production model was unveiled at the New York Auto Show in April 2006, and production commenced in North America in the summer of 2006.About the Saturn Aura
The Saturn Aura was considered one of the most distinctive midsize sedans on the market. The car stands on the extended version of the Epsilon platform by General Motors. The car offers plenty of legroom, especially in the rear.

The 2009 version of the car comes in two trim levels: the XE and XR. Both variants come equipped with a strong V-6 engine and sporty equipment and features. The XE has 17-inch, optional alloy wheels and a 224 horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The four-speed automatic transmission comes standard in all Aura variants. Other standard features of the car include traction control, full-power accessories, air-conditioning, cruise control, and StabiliTrak stability control. A CD player with a six-speaker audio system also comes standard.
The XR, on the other had, comprises a more robust 3.6-liter V-6 engine that can put out up to 252 horsepower. The six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters comes as a standard feature of the vehicle. The XR variant also offers leather seating, 18-inch alloy wheels, a power driver’s seat, an eight-speaker premium stereo system, a six-CD changer, and heated front seats standard.
Both the XE and the XR variants of the Saturn Aura have strong pickup due to the robust V-6 engine. The 252-hp XR variant in particular outperforms other models in this regard. The steering wheel is perfectly weighed, and the on-road noise stays at a minimum.
The acceleration of both the XE and XR is smooth, and the six-gear system can add variety to your drive. The workhorse 3.6-liter engine also provides excellent fuel economy.Saturn Aura Evolution
The 2007 version of the Aura attempts to mimic a European luxury sport sedan. The car has a fairly strong, high-tech engine beside the six-speed automatic transmission and the paddle shifters. Critics considered it a solid sedan in its class, since the handling has a heavy and muscular feel to it.
The mainstream version of the Saturn Aura, the XE, contains a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces 224 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. The car also has a four-speed automatic transmission. The more upscale XR version features a 3.6-liter engine offering 252 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque via a six-speed automatic transmission. The latter could be shifted manually by using the paddles placed behind the steering. The Green Line version of the car, which the manufacturer released the same year, contains a four-cylinder, 2.4-liter engine coupled to an electric motor. Together, they add up to 164 hp and 159 lb-ft of torque. The standard Green Line model comes with a four-speed automatic transmission, and the fuel efficiency rate falls in the range of 20/28 mpg city/highway.
The standard safety features of all 2007 Saturn Aura versions include traction control, full-length side-curtain airbags, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, front-seat side airbags, and an OnStar emergency communications system. The stability control feature comes standard in the Green Line and XR variants, but it’s unavailable in the XE version of the Aura.
