The Range

Body Styles: Minivan
Engines: 3.5-liter V-6
Transmissions: four-speed automatic
Models: Relay 2, Relay 3

What's New

The 2006 Saturn Relay minivan comes with a power passenger sliding door, first-row side airbags, and traction control for the model 3s. An optional 3.9-liter V-6 provides 240 horsepower. The Saturn Relay adds a passenger-sensing system to detect the absence of passengers or those with low body weights. Sensing either of these conditions deactivates the front passenger airbag.

The 2006 Saturn Relay comes in eight colors with both light and dark shades. It includes auto headlamps, daytime running lamps, power heated mirrors with the manual folding feature, an intermittent rear window wiper and washer, and dual sliding rear doors. Other features include a roof rail system and 17-inch wheels and tires. The all-wheel drive Saturn Relay Model 3 comes with independent rear suspension as opposed to the twist beam axle on the other models, auto load leveling, and an inflator kit. A trailering package is rated for up to 3500 pounds and comes as an option on all models as well as a touring package for the front-drive models which combines firmer suspension with better tires, automatic load leveling, and the inflator kit.

The 2006 Saturn Relay seats seven passengers in two rows of bucket seats and a folding bench in the third row. The Relay 2 has manually operated sliding doors. For all models, OnStar comes standard. Other standard features include air-conditioning, remote keyless entry, cruise control, power locks and windows, and an eight-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 player stereo system. Rear passengers enjoy rear audio controls as well as a DVD entertainment system.

For the Relay 3, a six-way power driver’s seat and second row captain’s chairs, a power passenger sliding door, rear air-conditioning, power third-row vent windows, headphones and remote control for the DVD player, overhead storage systems, and rear cargo storage systems come standard. Other features include a universal garage door opener and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. Finally, Relay 3 models offer traction control. Most of the standard features for the Relay 3 remain optional on the Relay 2. These include rear-seat air-conditioning, a power driver’s seat, a power sliding door, and headphones for the DVD player. The entertainment package provides wireless headphones, a 115-volt power point, and a second-row toy box for families. The Captain’s Chair Package gives the second-row passengers captain’s chairs that provide side-impact airbags as well. The Relay 3 has options for leather upholstery with heated front seats and a GPS navigation system. The Convenience Package allows for a power driver-side door with rear park assistance system. All Relay models have the options of XM Radio and a PhatNoise entertainment system which features a 40 GB hard drive.

Performance & Handling

The 2006 Saturn Relay employs a 3.5-liter, V-6 engine for the Relay 2 and 3. Front-drive models offer 201 hp and 216 lb-ft of torque. The Relay 3 with all-wheel drive has the same size engine but produces 196 horsepower and 213 lb-ft of torque. All Relay models have the option for a StabiliTrak electronic stability control system. The 3.5-liter engine runs smooth and quiet but doesn’t feel extremely powerful. Steering maneuvers easily. The electronic traction control in the Relay 3 front-drive models limits wheel spin during acceleration on slippery surfaces.

The 2006 Saturn Relay receives a great safety rating, earning five stars in driver and passenger front-impact and passenger side-impact protection. It receives a four-star rating in driver side-impact protection. Anti-lock brakes come standard. Models have seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the driver and passenger and second-row side-impact airbags remain optional.
