If you have any doubt as to the intended target market for the Scion tC just visit their web site where the manufacturer invites you to "immerse yourself in everything tC"...from downloads of free music and videos to wallpaper for your computer. And the specs on the 161 horsepower DOHC 2.4 liter engine are immediately followed by the specs on the 160-watt 6-speaker sound system.
The 2007 Scion tC is a carryover design of the 2006, shown here. This may be one vehicle where the clean avant-garde look of the unadorned base model is just as appealing as a fully accessorized tC with ground effects kit and rear deck spoiler. The standard split-sliding-moon roof provides rear seat passengers with their own view of the stars. The rear window opens like a hatchback to provide easy access to the rear cargo area.
There are two transmission choices to channel the 162 pounds feet of torque to the front wheels; a five-speed manual and an electronically controlled four-speed. Braking is provided by power-assisted 4-wheel discs with ABS through the standard 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels shod with low profile "Z" rated all season tires. EPA mileage figures for the manually equipped tC like the one we drove are 23 City and 30 Highway.
Knowing that appearance and performance are high on drivers' priority list, Scion offers a wide selection of options and accessories from 18-inch alloy wheels and a rear deck spoiler to suspension kits, performance clutch and sport muffler. Inside a Pioneer AM/FM/CD player features a 6-speaker sound system with upgrades available that include Satellite radio, iPod and 100-watt 10" Bazooka subwoofers!
Amber illumination for the instrument cluster, an adjustable steering wheel with audio controls and a variety of upgrades such as metal racing-style pedals and shift knob, round out the interior dŽcor. Dual-stage airbags protect front seat passengers with side curtain bags available for both front and rear seat passengers.
Considering the MSRP for a nicely equipped base tC is just under $17,000 you may want to put a closer look at this Scion on your priority list.
