2010 Scion xB Review

Boxy hatchback continues to appeal to younger generation

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2010 Scion xB is a four-door hatchback that is versatile and dependable. Sporting a 2.4-liter I-4 engine, the Scion sB comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, while a four-speed automatic transmission with auto-manual control is a factory option.

In terms of accessories, you can choose from plethora of features, such as 19-inch alloy wheels, a plug-in navigation system, a rear-spoiler, a rear-entertainment system, and an upgraded audio head unit. In addition, performance elements, including brake upgrades, suspension up-scaling, and TRD, can be specified. Recognized as an "Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick," the 2010 Scion xB boasts great safety ratings. Fuel economy is not as good as some desire, coming in at 22 mpg city / 28 mpg highway.

New for 2010

In 2010, the Scion xBs received two new audio systems: base stereo is a 160-watt, six-speaker Pioneer unit with satellite radio support and a USB input; the optional Alpine unit has six speakers and 160-watt amp with a 4.3-inch touch screen, HD radio support, and multiple RCA outputs. Sizzling Crimson Mica paint replaced Blackberry Crush Metallic.

On the Outside

Coming standard with16-inch steel wheels, the Scion xB's customization accessories include wheels and a body kit.

From the Inside

The Scion xB's spacious interior has room for four passengers, and not even tall six-footers will be cramped, while maximum cargo room is an expansive 69.9 cubic-feet.

Driving Performance

The Scion xB's 158-horsepower, 162 pound-feet, 2.4-liter I-4 engine powers the hatchback. However, the extra power is necessary for its extra size but has resulted in sub-30 mpg fuel economy. Surprisingly, the 3000-pound xB is relatively nimble.

Safety Equipment

Standard safety features on the Scion xB include dual front airbags, front side-impact airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, stability control, anti-lock brakes, and seatbelt pre-tensioners.
